Transportation

St. Johns County's opportune location in Northeast Florida is a readily accessible destination from all angles. I-95, the principal north-south corridor along the eastern seaboard from Maine to Miami, runs straight through the heart of St. Johns County. Just 30 miles to our north, I-95 intersects with I-10, which runs from Jacksonville to Los Angeles. About an hour to our south, I-95 intersects with I-4, a quick pass to Orlando, Tampa, and other main hubs for business. U.S. Highway 1 and Florida Highway A1A also serve St. Johns County's north-south traffic, and several state roads run east-to-west providing easy and close access to Central Florida.

Florida East Coast Railroad
Florida East Coast Railroad (FEC) provides rail service through St. Johns County and along the East Coast of Florida. Connections with CSX and Norfolk Southern in Jacksonville carry freight throughout North America.

Northeast Florida Regional Airport at St. Augustine
Northeast Florida Regional Airport at St. Augustine, on US Highway 1 just north of downtown St. Augustine, is a key general aviation airport in the Northeast Florida Metropolitan Area.  It serves the aviation and economic development needs of the county and is also a reliever airport for Jacksonville International, located 50 miles to the north.  The airport’s primary runway is 8000’ long and is all-weather capable.

JAXPORT
The Jacksonville Port Authority (JAXPORT) owns and operates three public marine terminals and one passenger cruise terminal in Jacksonville Florida: the Blount Island Marine Terminal, the Talleyrand Marine Terminal, the Dames Point Marine Terminal and the temporary JAXPORT Cruise Terminal. JAXPORT develops, manages and markets those publicly-owned facilities to promote the growth of maritime and related industries in our area and beyond.

JAXPORT also offers year-round cruise ship service aboard Carnival Cruise Lines' ship Carnival Fascination. The Carnival Fascination sails from the JAXPORT Cruise Terminal.

JAXPORT's vision is to be a major economic engine in Northeast Florida by continuing to be a premier diversified port in the Southeastern United States, with connections to major trade lanes throughout the world.

JAXPORT is an important part of our community. JAXPORT employees interact with the public in a number of ways, including providing tours of our marine terminals and volunteering in community projects.

Motor Freight
Because of its excellent transportation system, the county has extensive motor carrier service.  The rates are especially favorable traveling north.

Public Bus Transportation
St. Johns County's Public Transit Service offers six different routes, all covering different areas including: A1A, US1, Moultrie Shopping Center, Downtown St. Augustine, St. Johns County Government Center & Courthouse Areas, West St. Augustine, and SR 16 Outlet Malls & the Avenues Mall Areas. Routes begin between 6:00 and 7:00 a.m. and run until sometime between 5:15 and 7:05 p.m., depending on the location. Fare of $1.00 per one way trip must be paid upon entering the bus. (Seniors 60+, children 6 years old and under, persons with disabilities and anyone with a Medicare Card may ride for $0.50 per one way trip.) Riders must use exact change on busses... no change is available from drivers. A $25.00 non-transferable monthly pass is available for unlimited use, call the office or ask drivers for details. Transfers are free. Connections to the JTA transit system can be made at the Avenues Mall in Jacksonville. Riders may board or exit the bus at any street corner along the bus route.
